This former German bunker was part of the defense line of the Atlantic Wall. A defensive structure that stretched from the North Cape to the Spanish border. Lying in the water today and only visible at low tide, this bunker marks the former shoreline of Westkapelle, which was destroyed when Allied forces landed in 1944. Westkapelle is therefore one of the only successful landing operations on the Atlantic Wall from the sea side, along with the beaches of Normandy.
