Cycling
The Barbican in Krakow is one of Europe's best-preserved medieval defensive structures. It was built around 1498 as part of the city fortifications and served to protect the northern entrance to the city. Via a fortified passage, the Barbican was connected to the St. Florian's Gate and formed an important part of the city's defenses.
The imposing circular structure made of red brick has walls up to three meters thick, numerous loopholes, and several defensive towers. Its sophisticated design made the Barbican an almost impregnable fortress and protected Krakow from attacks for centuries.
