The town park of the town of Hettstedt can be reached from the market on a short climb immediately behind the church of St. Jacobi.
Today's city park was used as a graveyard until 1539, but was then abandoned.
The reasons for moving the cemetery can be varied.
The 16th and 17th centuries in Central Germany were the terrible times of the plague and Hettstedt also had to mourn many deaths.
On the other hand, medieval Hettstedt was characterized by very cramped structural conditions, since the town center was hardly larger than a village.
