When you enter Patersgasse you have one of the most picturesque perspectives of Alt-Erkelenz in front of you. After a few meters, a memorial plaque on the left commemorates the devastation of the former Jewish synagogue in the so-called Reichspogromnacht in November 1938. The Jewish community had set up their prayer house on this street in 1869, the striking roof turret of which was still visible in photos until the 1920s.
