Hiking Highlight
The Dammgraben is the longest man-made ditch in the Upper Harz and is part of the Rammelsberg Mine, Old Town of Goslar and Upper Harz Water Management and has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010.
Its purpose was to divert surface water for the operation of the Upper Harz coal and steel industry from distant areas with high levels of precipitation (in particular from the Bruchberg massif and parts of the Brocken massif). It gets its name from the Sperberhaier Dam, which bridges a depression in the terrain.

Nice section for hiking or driving. Almost at ground level and good road surface. I find the minimal gradient and the intact water system / structure impressive

The advantage of the paths along the trenches is that there is usually no incline. An exception is the upper course of the dam ditch from Förster-Ludwig-Platz.

Very nice section along the dam ditch. There is still forest there, the water babbles soothingly, there are small information boards at the edge of the path, easy to walk there, at ground level and well developed, no meters in altitude,

Gorgeous long paths along the dam ditch! It is very interesting that the special features of the Upper Harz water shelf are pointed out and explained here in many places.

Beautiful hiking trail through the forest, without significant gradients and the soft rippling of the water next to you

Mining facility that demands a lot of respect from me.

The path on the Dammgraben is something special and doesn't have to go up and down a lot.
Unfortunately, the storm and drought left many trees to die for.

Relaxed path with only a slight incline / decline. Nice route, for example from Altenau in the direction of the Nabentaler waterfalls. :)
