The beautiful castle now belongs to a foundation and is to be renovated by 2030. It previously belonged to Ernst August von Hannover junior, it was built in the 19th century by King George V of Hannover as a summer residence, hunting lodge and widow's residence. Fun fact: only the caretaker lived here for 80 years!

A visit to the castle is always worthwhile. But best during the week, as it is not so crowded.

The castle Marienburg is a palace, which was built by George V of Hanover from 1858 to 1869 as a summer residence, hunting lodge and later widow's residence on the Marienberg near Hanover. It was a gift to his wife, Queen Marie, on her 39th birthday on April 14, 1857. Queen Marie and her daughter Mary lived in the castle from 1866 to 1869. After their exile, the castle was closed for nearly 80 years only from the caretaker and from 1945 temporarily inhabited by refugees and by the family of Ernst August (III.) (Wikipedia).

The best complete view is from the south.
The reopening of Malbork Castle is scheduled for 2031 at the earliest, as the castle requires extensive renovation due to roof structures at risk of collapsing due to mold infestation. Malbork Castle has been closed to visitors since the end of 2023. Fans of the castle can instead experience the building via a new virtual tour app.
