In 1893, the preliminary work on the site was begun, the railway bridge then completed in 1897 as a steel construction of the MAN Gustavsburg plant. First designs for an arch bridge at this point between the two cities go back to the year 1889. The six scaffolding pillars have a maximum height of 69 m. The middle opening of the superstructure, which spans the valley floor, has a mean span of 170 m. The total length of the steel structure is 465 m. A total of 5,000 t of steel profiles were installed and 950,000 rivets were knocked.

The Müngsten Bridge (formerly Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge) is the highest railway bridge in Germany. It spans the valley of the Wupper between the cities of Remscheid and Solingen at a height of 107 meters in the immediate vicinity of the station Solingen-Schaberg.
