Between Newhaven and Seaford is the Ouse Estuary Nature Reserve which is home to a wide variety of birds, insects, plants and amphibians including the internationally protected Great Crested Newt.
Cutting across the nature reserve is an excellent tarmac traffic-free cycle path which is part of National Cycle Network route 2. The scenic trail is an excellent alternative to the busy A259, which runs alongside it.

The cycling path is wide enough and paved well for a road bike with 25mm and it much more enjoyable than busy main road. Don't take the road, take the cycle route instead.
