At the end of Goethestrasse stands the town church. In 1648, Rotenburg's fifth church was built here on the "high field" as the "Church of Peace", after its predecessors had stood in front of the castle since around 1195 and had been destroyed by wars and fires. In 1752, the old tower had to be replaced by a massive bell tower made of fieldstone, which still stands today. In 1862, the Bremen master builder E. Klingenberg replaced the dilapidated old nave with a new building in the neo-Gothic style typical of the time.
