With its friendly restaurants, bars, cafes and pubs and fascinating history, East Grinstead is a charming market town in West Sussex. It has some incredible historic architecture: The highstreet is one of the longest stretches of medieval timber-framed buildings in England.

You may have heard of the town from the Blur song Lonesome Street. It's a nice place to stop for supplies on a bike trip. You can find more information, here: visiteastgrinstead.com

Small town with lots of shops and cafes. There is a Halfords here if you need something for your bike.

East Grinstead is probably best known for its medieval high street, which has the longest row of medieval buildings in the country.

The town’s cycling highlight is the Forest Way, which follows a disused train line east to Groombridge. Another disused railway, the Worth Way, link with Three Bridges to the west. East Grinstead is also the terminus of the heritage Bluebell Railway, which is next to the mainline railway station. The Bluebell Railway runs south to Horsted Keynes and Sheffield Park. All three of these old railway lines were cut by one of the town’s most famous people, Richard Beeching, known for the Beeching Cuts to the country’s railway network in the 1960s.
