The Val Corno, which stretches from the Capanna Gorno-Gries to the Passo del Corno, is scenically and geologically very interesting: Garnet inclusions in the slate on the Griespass, picturesque Griessee on the edge of the glacier world. Between the Nufenen Pass and Val Formazza, there is little reminiscent of Ticino as one commonly imagines it. Nevertheless, or perhaps because of it, the area around the Corno Gries hut is a spectacular spot in the southern canton. The hut is particularly suitable for hikes, children's holidays, ski and summit tours and as a stage location for long-distance hikes.
