Bike Touring Highlight
Beautiful. Prefer not to stop in the restaurant directly on the Main but take the way up and walk through the old town. Great houses and restaurants. On the way down through the castle courtyard and rose garden walk.
For coffee and cake, visit the Café Huttenhof. Right next to the "podium" for the big hunger and delicious beer. Insider tip: if you want to drink a delicious Äppler, go to "Maa Äppelsche". Small shop also in the old town. ;)

The Maintor, which leads directly from the Main into the historic old town, is the last remaining city gate of the medieval fortifications in Steinheim, which was probably built directly after the city charter was granted in 1320. Originally the complex consisted of a main and front wall, full and shell towers and 4 city gates. In addition to the main gate, which was originally designed as a double gate, there are still the main wall, the Dilgesturm built as a shell tower and the mill or lower gate, which was also built as a double gate but closed in the 19th century.Today the gate appears as a three-storey gatehouse with a barrel-vaulted passage with rebates for the gate stop and with machicolation. In the late 15th century, or as engraved in the archway in 1506, the building was supplemented by a half-timbered upper floor with quarter-circle struts and lined half-man struts. The current hipped roof has been changed several times, and there is an apartment in the tower.denkmalschutz.de/presse/archiv/artikel/maintor-in-hanau-steinheim-erhaelt-unterstuetzung-durch-die-dsd.html
