The Altenburg sits enthroned on the highest hill west of Bamberg's old town and offers a wide view over the city and the surrounding area from its viewing terrace. If the keep is open, the climb is worthwhile: from there, the view extends to the Giechburg, about 20 kilometers away, in clear weather.
