The Ratsstein quarry, on the Schwalbensteinerwand, opens up kick tufts, which represent solidified volcanic ash. They belong to the upper Gehrener strata of the Unterrotliegend. Because of its strength and processing ability, it was previously highly valued as a stone. The quarry has been used for several centuries and has already been described by Goethe. Dismantling was stopped in 1964.
Today it serves among other things as a climbing rock with 14 routes from difficulty III to VIII. Additional information can be obtained from the DAV.
