The Stollburg castle ruins are the ruins of a hilltop castle at 442.9 meters on the 476 meter high Stollberg, Franconia's highest vineyard, in the Handthal district, part of the Oberschwarzach market in the Schweinfurt district of Lower Franconia in Bavaria.

The castle was probably built in the 12th century by the Lords of Stollberg and was donated to Ebrach Monastery in 1151 by the Würzburg Monastery.

According to the thesis of the local historian Gerhard Wagner, the minstrel Walther von der Vogelweide was born around 1170 on the Stollburg. [2] [3]

During a feud with the Würzburg bishop Hermann von Lobdeburg in 1236 Ludwig von Stollberg was slain by Würzburg horsemen, the castle came to the Würzburg monastery in 1237 and in 1303 became the seat of a Würzburg bailiff.

On May 2, 1525, the castle was destroyed and burned down in the Peasants' War, while the bailiff, Count von Castell, was called to Würzburg to defend the Marienberg fortress against the rebellious peasants.
