The old Westermarkelsdorf lighthouse in the northwest of Fehmarn, built in 1881–1882, is a 17.7-meter-high, octagonal brick tower with an attached keeper's house. It served as an important orientation light until 2021, was then replaced by a new building, and is now a popular photo motif, but not open for visits.
