The temple was built in the 2nd century AD in honor of the Roman Emperor Trajan and the god Zeus Philios. The complex is located on the highest point of the Acropolis of Pergamon. It is a temple in the Corinthian style, of which impressive column remains can still be seen today. The Acropolis of Pergamon is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
