This site is always open, and is accessed by a red gate by the roadside, down a paved path. Traditionally, it was most frequented on Saturday nights and on Martinmas (Nov. 11), and a Sunday Mass is sometimes still held there on St. Martin's Day.
This is a holy well dedicated to St. Martin of Tours, which tradition holds was either conferred by St. Senan or that it was formerly the site of a Mass rock. The Grotto dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes was erected in the Marian Year of 1954.
Water from the well is said to cure ailments of the eyes and feet, as well as rheumatism. The water is considered efficacious even when transported from the site. There are no special rounds or prayers, but some visitors leave candles or statues as offerings.
Through the striking red gate, which is always open, you reach a paved path that seems to lead you into another world.
It is said that even in the times of Saint Senan, this sanctuary was a place of prayer and meditation. Perhaps a so-called Mass Rock once stood here, where secret services were held. The tradition and devotion to Saint Martin of Tours is noticeable here, especially on Martinmas, November 11th. Even today, on this special day, a Sunday mass is occasionally celebrated outdoors, bringing together believers from all over the region.
In the Marian year of 1954, the grotto was added in honor of Our Lady of Lourdes, giving the place an additional spiritual depth. But it is the holy well that attracts many visitors in the hope of healing and relief. The water from this well is said to have the power to cure eye and foot ailments as well as rheumatism. And even in the distance, far away from this holy place, its effect should not diminish.
Many who come here do so with gratitude and devotion. It is not uncommon to find candles and small statues left behind as signs of thanks and veneration.
