Mountain biking

The church dates from 1280 and is not only an eye-catcher from the outside. Inside there is a splendid, carved office, which probably comes from the sculptor Hans Gudewerdt from the nearby Eckernförde.

The fact that the church has always been of central importance for this place is evident in Karby's name: It is made up of the Danish terms for church (“Karke”) and “by” for village.

The place name Karby (Kirchdorf) is derived from Danish usage. The term "Karke" means church here, "by" means village. Historically, Karby was always the village with the church in the parish of the Schwansen region.

Karby has a church in the early Gothic style from 1280. Particularly striking is the 24-meter-high, eye-catching tower with a gable roof. The house of worship in Karby is a real eye-catcher, not only on the outside but also on the inside. The carved pulpit from 1592 probably comes from the workshop of the woodcarver Hans Gudewerdt from Eckernförde.

The brick church was built around 1300 in Gothic style and is prominently located in the middle of the village center. A large cemetery adjoins the church. The nave, choir, sacristy, and tower hall are spanned by cross-ribbed vaults. The mighty, widely visible tower was added later. During restoration work, a crypt was discovered under the altar. Late Gothic paintings have been preserved inside.
