Waldau is home to the 13th-century Waldau Castle. Builder and first owner of the hill castle was the Ministerialengeschlecht the Waldauer, which also built the castle Schellenberg. After the extinction of Waldauer 1545 the Wirsberger acquired the plant. In the following centuries, the castle had changing owners. In the second half of the 17th century, the New Castle was built after parts of the castle had become dilapidated. In the 18th century, the keep and adjacent buildings were converted into a local church. In 1912, the Church of St. John of Nepomuk was built, since then the castle is no longer used as a church.
