The age of the cold tree cannot be reliably determined in this way.
In the 16th century there were border difficulties between the Electoral Palatinate and Leuchtenberg, during the course of which the Electoral Palatinate officials cut down the cold tree. When the Chancellor of Leuchtenberg, Dr. Johann Federl among others with his colleague Dr. Reimer complained, he had to admit on October 29, 1596: "He himself knew the cold Peumels that he had seen, and that he had done injustice with the defeat." [2]
After the dispute a new tree must have been planted, because in 1612 the "Kalte Bäuml" is mentioned again. The aforementioned Leuchtenberg Chancellor Dr. Federl reports that on May 12, 1612 "... up at Kalten Bäuml" he took over the escort for the Bohemian King Mathias. He also mentions a treaty dated June 27, 1606, on the basis of which the border tree was rebuilt.
