The engagement urn is a listed monument in the Alexisbad district of the city of Harzgerode. It is located on the rock spur of the Habichtstein on the right, eastern slope of the Selke valley high above the southern entrance to Alexisbad. In the immediate vicinity of the engagement urn is the stamp number 177 of the Harz hiking pin. The Selketalstieg, which runs along the cliff path here, leads along the urn. A little further east is the birch house.

The cast iron vessel with this strange name is located on a cliff of the Habichtstein high above the Selketal. It was donated in 1845 by Württemberg nobles as a souvenir of their stay in the spa town of Alexisbad and placed in this exposed location. In the years 1961 and 1992 a comprehensive restoration of the peculiar work of art took place.
Already in the middle of the 19th century, the engagement urn was considered a beautiful and attractive hiking destination. This was not least due to the wonderful view of the Selketal and the southern part of Alexisbad. Nothing has changed to this day. Several benches and a small shelter provide the hiker with security and the opportunity to take a break. During this, the view of the urn and the houses of Alexisbad lying in the valley falls.

Engagement urn Alexisbad.
Here is the stamp 177 of the Harz hiking pin. A noble guest had the cast-iron urn erected on a cliff of the Habichtstein in 1845 in memory of his stay in Alexisbad.
Tip, if you arrive in Alexisbad above, cross the street and then take the hiking path towards Alexisbad "Zentrum" on the right. Unfortunately, the stamping site for the maid jump is only signposted on the left, but not the one for the engagement urn. The path to the engagement urn begins in the center at the Petruskapelle.

"The engagement urn was erected in 1845/1846 on the Habichtstein high above Alexisbad by a group of aristocrats from Württemberg.
It was meant to be a reminder of a carefree stay for young noblemen in September 1845. One of them was a Prince von Hohenlohe-Oeringen, in whose foundry the exhibit was cast. The memorial is popularly referred to as the engagement urn because there has been speculation about the reason for its erection. "

The engagement urn, which has nothing to do with engagement, is described extensively in many places! The engagement urn and stamping point of the Harz hiking pin are the real attraction in the village, not forgetting of course the station of the Harz narrow-gauge railway.

At the engagement urn is the HWN stamp office 177. From there you have a wonderful view of Alexisbad and the Selketal.
