The striking building of the former district court was constructed between 1877 and 1879 (usually dated 1879). It is a classicist (or neoclassical) building in the style of the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. It served as the Grand Ducal District Court with courtrooms, judges' chambers, and even cells for prisoners.

After the Second World War and during the GDR era, its function as a court ended. From around 1945/1952, the building was used for other purposes: initially as accommodation for resettled people, and from 1952 as a rural medical center (doctors' house/polyclinic).
