The palace was built between 1921 and 1923 by Khai Dinh; the last emperor, Bao Dai, worked there until the transfer of the imperial regalia to Ho Chi Minh. The architectural influence of the French and Italian Renaissance, combined with Vietnamese stylistic elements, is unmistakable. The porcelain mosaics adorning the facades are particularly impressive. Extensive renovations took place between 2019 and 2023. Since then, the interior has primarily featured ceramics.
