Tips

  • Do not forget the tail light: this is followed by a 3.5km road tunnel.

  • Ravedis lake is an artificial basin 7 km long and about 45 m deep. Its main function is to regulate the outflow of the Cellina torrent, subject to frequent autumn floods and overflows in the Pordenone plain (the peak was reached with the flood of '66). Unlike the other dams, it is therefore equipped with 2 huge bottom outlets with a diameter of 8 meters.

The history of the Ravedis dam is very troubled and dates back to the 1950s. After the first feasibility studies, the Vajont disaster (1963) completely halted the construction of any dam in the area. In the 1990s, given the persistence of the Cellina floods, the Cellina-Meduna Reclamation Consortium resumed the works, until the end of the appropriations. Having recovered the funds to complete the construction, the Tangentopoli cyclone hit the construction company, blocking the work again. Only in 2014 will it finally be tested, after 28 years of work.
