The North Frisian Maritime Museum brings the major themes of seafaring to life. The Husum Maritime Museum – with its large outdoor area – is located directly on Husum's harbor.Whaleing and fishing, shipbuilding and navigation: The constantly growing exhibition at the North Frisian Maritime Museum makes Husum's maritime history tangible, even for seasoned landlubbers, across several floors of the old building. Models and diagrams explain, for example, how medieval storm surges shaped the North Frisian coastline, the nets Husum cutters used to fish for crabs and other fish, which ship types were launched from the Husum shipyard, and how captains navigated the Wadden Sea.The extensive collection of precious ship models is awe-inspiring, and in the outdoor area, historic buoys, anchors, ship parts, and the over 100-year-old buoy tender "Hildegard" provide an even more vivid impression of maritime history. Particularly impressive is the wreck of Uelvesbüll, known as the "Sugar Ship." The 400-year-old cargo ship was salvaged near Uelvesbüll in 1996. It represents hundreds of ships that have sunk in the North Sea. Since summer 2020, the new special exhibition "Ships in Sight" has been on display in the museum's attic. The North Frisian Maritime Museum includes a spacious outdoor area, which can be visited free of charge.husum-tourismus.de/Media/Attraktionen/Schiffahrtsmuseum-Nordfriesland#/article/0dd42824-da0d-40ae-923e-8d79382ef452
