This tower, which offers a great view of Mount Fuji, is actually a tsunami evacuation site.

During the Edo period, mounds built to escape from high tides and tsunamis were called "Inochiyama(命山)", and this is a true "Modern Inochiyama" that has inherited that tradition. Along the Pacific coast of Shizuoka Prefecture, there are many such tsunami evacuation sites in preparation for the predicted mega-earthquake. Some are mound-type, while others are tower-type.
