Josef Rosenauer Memorial

At the age of 13, Joseph Rosenauer began an apprenticeship at the Princely Schwarzenberg Pheasantry in Rotenhof (Červený Dvůr) near Kalsching. After showing exceptional talent for forestry, in 1759 he became an assistant to the Princely Forestry Administration in Krumlov, which later enabled him to study at the Vienna Engineering Academy. After the excellent degree in May 1770, he was awarded the title of Princely Forest Engineer a year later. After subsequent geodetic studies and examinations, he was appointed sworn surveyor in 1774.
With it, a connection was created between the upper Vltava and the Danube, which made it possible to transport the wood from the Bohemian Forest, which was difficult to access at the time, to Vienna at low cost. As early as 1774, Rosenauer presented the plans, all of which he calculated and drew himself.
