The Dominican Church with its former monastery is one of the most important buildings in terms of art history in the South Tyrolean capital of Bolzano. The Roman Catholic Church, which serves the pastoral care of the Italian-speaking population and is consecrated to St. Dominic, is located at Dominikanerplatz 1 in the district of Zentrum-Bozner Boden-Rentsch. In terms of art history, their monk choir is one of the earliest examples of Gothic sacred architecture in Tyrol. The Gothic wall paintings in the church and cloister between 1320 and 1520 are the most important of their kind in Bolzano, while the Guercino altarpiece in the nave is a high-level example of Italian Baroque.

The Dominican Church, one of the first Gothic building ensembles in South Tyrol, stands on the Dominican Square in Bolzano. The church and the adjacent cloister are the remains of a monastery complex that dates back to the 13th century: in 1272, monks of the Dominican Order settled in Bolzano. Several chapels from that time that were part of the complex are now destroyed: in the St. John Chapel, however, one of the most beautiful fresco cycles in the city, from the 14th century, can be admired.
