Roman Mansio Burgsalach Ruins

This Roman complex near Burgsalach was long considered a very well-preserved small fort. According to the latest research, however, there is no evidence of a military building, and a moat has not been proven. With increasing research it turned out that some facilities, which were assigned to the military area due to their well-fortified appearance, were used for civil purposes, for example in the area of the state postal and communications system. This probably also applies to the "Burgus" in Burgsalach, which can be classified more as a Roman inn ("mansio") for travelers. There are three different models of a Burgus, and three display boards give an overview of the research history and the excavations. Very well preserved building.
