At Rohrbach the brook bed grew beyond its surroundings and a peculiar limestone tuff dam was created, a "stone channel" about 60 meters long and up to 1.5 meters wide.
Stone channels, also called growing stones, are formed by lime deposits from flowing water. While otherwise limestone tufts usually occur flat or in wide arches, you have to deal with a linear increase in the direction of the flowing water. A stream usually digs into its bed due to the erosive power of the flowing water. In the case of stone channels, on the other hand, the stream bed is increased by lime separation.
