Best Mountain Biking Routes to Alsterquelle (Source of the Alster)

Tips

  • The area around the Alster spring is very beautiful. At the Alsterquelle there are rest facilities.Source and history: Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alster
The waters are called in the oldest surviving document of the end of the 11th century Alstra. In the following years are found in the documents various spellings; Alster first appears in the 15th century. The name is based on an Indo-European root meaning "waters", "river"
The Alster springs in the area of the municipality Henstedt-Ulzburg. Its source is located in the north of the district Henstedt-Rhen. From there, the partly meandering river runs first to the north and bends a few hundred meters further downstream to the east. After passing through Wakendorf II and coming from the north Rönne at the height of the peasantry Naherfurth and the sub-crossing of the B 432 (south of Nahe), the river Alster finally turns south. It flows through or touches the Alster - mostly in a southerly direction - the areas of Bargfeld-Stegen, where at Gut Stegen the coming from the northeast Alte Alster, Kayhude (here begins the Alsterwanderweg) and Tangstedt-Rade. Shortly before the Rader lock the coming from the west Sielbek flows into the Alster.
The Oberalster lowlands between Wakendorf II in the district of Segeberg and Tangstedt in the district of Stormarn originated from the silting of a shallow ice lake formed in the Weichselian glacial period. The Upper Alster was channeled in the 15th century during the construction of the Alster-Best Canal (also: Alster-Trave Canal) to create a direct waterway between Hamburg and Lübeck.

  • Every beginning is hard! There is nothing to suggest here which room the Alster will occupy in the heart of Hamburg. The knowledge about it makes the trip to this dull puddle then a highlight.
(After their visit, you will probably first order 'n Radler before you get back to' Alsterwasser ')

  • The source itself is very unspectacular but a great resting place in summer.
It is often neglected in winter and autumn, but is then usually spruced up again in spring.
