The church of San Babila was built on the same site in about 1095. In the 16th century, the church was extended with an additional construction at the front and a new baroque façade.

Hiking

The basilica dates back to the late 11th century. Probably built on the site of a pagan temple, tradition holds that it rests on an ancient place of worship founded by Archbishop Lorenzo in the 5th century with the title "ad Concilia Sanctorum." The church was rebuilt after 1575 and completed with the monumental façade preceded by a pronaos designed by Aurelio Trezzi. In 1853, a first general restoration was carried out to recover the original Romanesque structure, and in 1906, the current neo-Romanesque façade designed by Paolo Cesa Bianchi was built.
