"Knight Stefan von Mörlheim, the co-founder of the Cistercian monastery Eußerthal, had given his aristocratic court and a chapel to the monastery in Mörlheim around 1148.
After an eventful history, the dilapidated church of St. Martin in Mörlheim became the property of the Catholics in 1705. The monastery church in Eusserthal and the Mörlheim church still show a miter and an abbot's staff on the top of the church tower next to the cross - ecclesiastical symbols that Heinrich Wilhelm, Freiherr von und zu Sickingen was allowed to wear as a layman.
