The Pongolapoort Dam, commonly known as the Jozini Dam, which creates Lake Jozini, is an arch dam.
The dam was built in 1973 at the eastern end of the narrow gorge separating the Lebombo and Ubombo Mountains. The dam serves primarily for irrigation purposes, and its potential hazards are considered high.
The Phongolo River is the dam's main feeder and outlet, and also its only permanent feeder and outlet.
