This sloping ramp, part of the old Waaygat whaling base, was used in the early to mid-1900s for harvesting and processing whale meat.
Historical significance: whales were killed far from the harbor. They were pulled to the ramp by a smaller boat. Steel cables were tied around the whale's flukes. A steam winch dragged the enormous carcass, tail-first, onto the sloping ramp.
Remains of the infrastructure of this defunct industry are still visible at the site.
