Cape Zhygylgan – a geological landslide – is a steep escarpment along the Caspian Sea, located 40 km northeast of the Tupkaragan district and 60 km from the village of Tauchik.

Scientists cannot explain the crater's formation, but many attribute it to the displacement of rocks; some suspect the impact of a large meteorite in prehistoric times.

It was likely formed by the flooding of a layer of clay and sand beneath a layer of limestone or by a seismic explosion.

The escarpment consists of Neogene deposits of limestone-shell rocks from the Upper Miocene-Pilocene epoch (an age that began 23 million years ago and ended 5.33 million years ago).

During this age, sea urchins, crinoids and other echinoderms, snails and mussels, crabs and crustaceans, vertebrates, sharks, insects, and mammals inhabited the area.

The coastline is rocky, with some sandy sections. These geological landslides or "falls" are still ongoing.

During the short hike, you can see rock carvings and various deep caves.
