The church tower of the Old Parish Church of St. Simon and Jude, known as the Thorr Roman Tower, is the landmark of the small district of Thorr, which belongs to the district town of Bergheim, whose main street is called „Römerstraße“. Even if there is no direct connection between the present-day tower and the Romans, it is assumed that the place Thorr, located on a Roman road, owes its name to a tower (Thorr – Thuris – turris (lat.) = Tower) or a Celtic-Roman sacrificial site in the same place.
