The redesign of the Niers river in Mönchengladbach's Bresgespark, completed in spring 2024, involved the new construction and natural design of approximately 3.7 km of waterways. This has returned an area of around 13 football fields to the Niers, creating new habitats for plants and animals, as well as floodplains for high water levels. This redesign, situated in the middle of an urban area, strengthens biodiversity and species protection, supports the natural water cycle, and thus contributes to the climate resilience of the Niers and its surroundings.
