Kongelunden on Amager is a versatile destination for nature lovers, cyclists, and walkers. The mix of 150-year-old oak trees, rare plants, and over 300 different bird species makes the forest a special experience.
The forest was planted starting in 1818, after Amager had been completely treeless since the Swedish wars in the 17th century. In 1830, large-scale reforestation with oak trees began, later followed by chestnut and walnut trees, and a variety of wild plants such as wild garlic, elderberry, and mirabelle plums. The wildlife ranges from pheasants and deer to foxes, rare insects, and migratory birds in the spring.
