At the “Old Town Hall” there is a carillon (set up in 2006), which was installed on the outer wall. The carillon sounds daily at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. It consists of 12 differently tuned bells that can currently play a repertoire of 32 melodies. E.g. the national anthems of Germany, France and Great Britain, various holiday-dependent songs such as "Oh du Merry" at Christmas and various folk songs. As a reminder of the hard fate of the fathers who worked as miners in Bad Ems, the song "Glück auf, der Steiger comes" was recorded. The entire carillon weighs 312 kilograms. The bells do not vibrate like church bells, they are each played individually by an electromagnet that moves a pen and controlled via a keyboard. Using this technology, up to 112 songs can be programmed or even newly composed.
