This fort, also called Gorey Castle, is the oldest preserved castle in the island. She protected Jersey more than 600 years ago from the French invasion. Later Gorey Castle was then in French hands, Governor's seat and eventually even prison.

Mont Orgueil Castle (or Gorey Castle) is located on the Channel Island of Jersey in the parish of Saint Martin above the town of Gorey (Gorey Pier), on the east coast facing the French Cotentin Peninsula. The fortress can be reached via steep steps at the eastern end of the harbor or through the town toward Anne Port. The fortress's imposing location prompted the brother of the English King Henry V, Thomas of Lancaster, 1st Duke of Clarence (1388–1421), to call it "Mont Orgueil" (Proud Mountain); thus the name originated.
