The hermitage is currently undergoing restoration following the 2016 earthquake. Visitors can currently rest in front of it on a long stone bench in the garden. The current structure was built between the 1970s and the early 2000s by a Capuchin friar (Father Armando Lavini, known as Pietro), on the ruins of an old Benedictine monastery, abandoned since 1600. The structure originally held strategic importance as an important pilgrimage route between Rome and the Adriatic passed through this area. The last private owner of the land was Luigi Albertini, former editor of the Corriere della Sera.
