With an ice cream in hand, it's great to watch the operation at the lock.

Lock practice determines whether the lock gates at Hvide Sande are open or closed. Here the water level and the salinity of the water on the fjord side are regulated.
If the gates are open, there is a strong current and it is difficult to get a fish on the hook. Here you can also find out about the water level, current and weather at the lock in Hvide Sande.

Hvide Sande Havn is one of Denmark's most modern fishing harbors and has good service facilities. It was created in connection with the construction of the drainage and chamber lock and inaugurated in August 1931. In the years 1970 - 1985 major expansions and renovations of the port were made, and in the years 2002 - 2008 significant investments were made in the modernization of the unloading and auction conditions for consumption fish.

The harbor consists of 2 harbor sections west of the locks: the south harbor with 2 basins and the north harbor and 2 harbor sections east of the locks in Ringkøbing Fjord: the east harbor and the port of Tyskerhavn. The port has a resident fishing fleet consisting of 60 vessels with a total gross tonnage of approximately 4,000 BT.

The smaller ships disappear and are partially replaced by larger ships of 200-300 BT. In the spring months, many foreign vessels visit Hvide Sande Havn, mainly for sole fishing. The port entrance is located directly on the North Sea. The entrance is protected by a 500 m long pier. The water depth in the entrance is 4.5 - 5.0 m.
