Hvide Sande Havn is one of Denmark's most modern fishing ports and has good service facilities. It was built in connection with the construction of the drainage and chamber lock and opened in August 1931. In the years 1970 - 1985, major expansions and renovations of the port were made, and in the years 2002 - 2008, significant investments were made in modernizing the unloading and auction conditions for consumption fish.

The port consists of 2 port sections west of the locks: The South Harbor with 2 basins and the North Harbor, and 2 port sections east of the locks in Ringkøbing Fjord: the East Harbor and Tyskerhavn Harbor. The port has a resident fishing fleet consisting of 60 vessels with a total gross tonnage of approximately 4,000 BT.

The smaller vessels are disappearing and are partly being replaced by larger vessels of 200-300 BT. In the spring months, many foreign ships visit Hvide Sande Havn, mainly to fish for sole. The harbor entrance is directly on the North Sea. The entrance is protected by a 500 m long pier. The water depth in the entrance is 4.5 - 5.0 m.
