Sheffield Road, AKA Surprise, is one of the classic climbs out of the Peak from Hathersage up to Fox House and on to Sheffield (A6187). It's a steady climb up out of Hathersage with fine views down the valley towards Grindleford.
Although the really appreciate this road, you need to set off from Shefield and descend it rather than climb it - it's not called 'Surprise View' for nothing - as you round the bend at the top, the views down into the Hope Valley are fantastic.
The only bad thing about this route out of Hathersage is the amount of traffic on it, as it's the main road route from the village to Sheffield and close passes are pretty commonplace.

Good climb that is steeper at the bottom, views from surprise view viewpoint at the top!
