The house is the residence of the head wife of the Maeda family. It was built in 1863.

The Tatsumi Pavilion combines samurai and sukiya styles and is considered a unique example of samurai architecture from the late Edo period. It is also the only surviving residence of the head wife of a daimyo in Japan.

Admission is required to visit, but photography is prohibited inside and on the exhibits.
