The mosaics of Mount Nebo are an excellent example of Byzantine art in the Moses Memorial Church. A church was built on the top of the mountain around 393 and has been redesigned again and again since then. The ancient bishopric of the same name was not on the mountain, but in the Byzantine city of the same name, 3 km away. The Roman Catholic titular diocese of Neve (Nebo) referred to this place until Vatican II.
In the 7th century, the summit of Nebo was a popular destination for pilgrims. There are only a few remains of the original church - stone blocks and parts of the mosaic floor.
