In 1765 the property was acquired by Field Marshal Franz Moritz Graf von Lacy, a friend of Emperor Joseph II. He had an English landscape garden laid out and 17 reed huts built at its highest point. The splendidly furnished little houses, in which all kinds of merrymaking took place, were subsequently called Hameau (little village). It is still a popular destination for the Viennese today.
