Joined the Austrian army at the age of 18, following the usual military career, Lacy became Chief of Staff Wirich Philipp Dauns, 1765 Field Marshal and 1766 President of the Imperial War Council (in this capacity he reorganized the Austrian Army until 1773)

After 1780, Franz Moritz Graf Lacy had a "Rousseaugrave" surrounded by a group of trees planted in a circle laid out on his own property. In 1794, the classical burial place "Moritzruhe" surrounded by a lance lattice, intended for himself and his nephew Feldzeugmeister Georg Graf Browne, was erected.
